Joe Yeakley Critically Injured In Fire (Lindale Tx)

Texas News Blog: It's always sad news when a firefighter is injured in the line-of-duty. However - as my father always told me, when I was a kid and he was a volunteer firefighter, it's just part of the job. Early this morning, while fighting a house fire near Lindale, Texas - Joe Yeakley was critically injured when a totally engulfed structure at 15922 Childress Drive collapsed around him. Yeakley was rushed to Parkland Hospital, in Dallas, with severe burns to his face and hands. Two other firefighters were also burned less severely and are at home now recovering from their injuries. Yeakley, has worked for the Lindale Fire Department for 14-years. According to news reports, a person was inside the home when it caught fire, but did not have a telephone. He successfully escaped and was able to call the fire department from another location. Dixie firefighter, Caleb Snider, was also injured in this same fire. He was treated and later released from a Tyler hospital. We all owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to firefighters like Yeakley and Snider. Only once or twice in a lifetime will we find ourselves in a situation where fire endangers our life and/or property and on those occasions seeing a firefighter pulling up to off his or her help to us, is the most beautiful sight in the world. God bless firefighters!
