There was a funeral service last weekend in Dumas, Texas for my cousin David Hutcherson. He died from cancer at the young age of 62. David was a good man and he did not deserve to die in such a horrible way and at such an early age. The good book teaches me not to hate, so I will just say that I extremely dislike cancer and all the negative things it does to families around the world everyday. Like David, many members of my family have lost their lives to cancer during the prime of life. David's father, Wayne, passed away before his 40th birthday. My own dad died from pancreatic cancer when he was 66-years-old. We will all miss David very much, but I am comforted in the knowledge he is in heaven now. During his short time on Earth, David touched thousands of people with his kindness. I will miss him and pray everyday that a cure for all types of cancer is found, soon. As I suspected, it did not take long for one major city in Texas to start restricting the use of e-cigarettes. Just yesterday, the City of Frisco voted to start treating e-cigarettes the same way as other smoke products within their city limits. At this time, it has not been proven that e-cigarettes are harmful either to the person smoking them or to the non-smoking public in general. However, there is a general distrust of any product that is inhaled into the lungs when something resembling smoke comes out as a byproduct. I expect Frisco, Texas to be only the first of many cities around the state to start putting restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes. Read more by clicking the image above.

We are about one month away from GOP primaries in Texas and pundits from around the nation are watching closely to see if the Tea Party will have the same power it had when Ted Cruz won a couple of years ago. Like all movements, there will be good and bad election cycles and I'm not sure if 2014 will be a good judge of whether or not the Tea Party is here to stay in Texas. Even tested conservatives like John Cornyn are facing challenges in the March primary from candidates who are so far to the right they make Rush Limbaugh look liberal. There is much distrust and dislike for President Obama in the Lone Star State, so it's anyone's guess right now what Republican voters will do next month.

Almost no one gives any chance whatsoever to front runner for the democratic nomination for Texas Governor Wendy Davis to actually win election in November. That is why I believe she might just have a chance, though small, at actually pulling it off. The one thing that is working against her is the liberal media establishment who is providing her with millions of dollars worth of free publicity - simply because they want to embarrass the GOP in Texas and nationwide. If Wendy Davis is smart, and I think she is, soon she should distance herself from liberals at the New York Times, Time Magazine, CNN and MSNBC and focus on winning over Texas women with an approach that will work in Texas. The sad truth is it takes a bunch of money to win statewide office in Texas and right now the only place Wendy Davis can find that money is from liberals in blue states. However, if she wins the democratic nomination - she should pivot immediately away from those folks and begin a grass roots campaign focused on the issues that impact Texas women like education and crime. If she does that, she might actually have a chance to win in November. Click Wendy's picture above to read more about her campaign.
